The Bichon Frise, French for curly white lap dog, is a descendant of the Barbet Water Spaniel and the Poodle. Historically, these charismatic and affectionate dogs were used as greeters because of their cheerful and lively temperament.  In France, during the 19th century all Kings of France owned several Bichon Frises, and they were pampered and adored by the Royal family.  The French word bichonner, which means to pamper or doll up, was derived from the pampering King Henry III of France gave to his beloved Bichon Frise.
The Bichon Frise has been categorized in the non-sporting dog group by the American Kennel Club because it is not considered small enough in size for the toy group. But still today, the Bichon Frise’s main occupation is companionship; their happy and charming temperament is what continues to make this breed such a loving companion.

White Shepherd Dog Facts

The White Shepherd came from the white fur recessive gene of the German shepherd dog that is commonly black/tan in color. The white fur trait shows up when both parents carry the white fur recessive gene and both pass it on to their puppy making him homozygous for the recessive white fur gene.

The White Shepherd is not a mixed breed. Many people believe that when this dog is seen with white fur it is because it has been mixed with another breed, but in fact this is only the result of a recessive white fur gene.

About fifty years ago the White Shepherd was disqualified by the German Shepherd Dog Breed Standard of the American Kennel Club (AKC), and thus, no longer allowed to compete in the AKC conformation ring.

The White Shepherd is now registered separately from the original German Shepherd dog with AKC and with the American White Shepherd Association, and has its own White Shepherd breed standard with AKC but it is still considered to be the same German Shepherd breed.
