Dog Aggression is cause by non socialization of your dog
Socialization is key in training a dog, it could very well be the one of the first things you want to start on when training your dog.
Most dogs that get adopted or rescued from a rescue or shelter are either strays, or owner surrenders. Some never had basic training on how to behave with other dogs, so they are excited when seeing another dog and don’t know how to play or introduce themselves.
When adopting a dog, you want to follow the basic steps that are presented in this book. The term “Dog Aggression” comes in when a dog is reactive, or unsure of another dog. Dogs that are unsure towards other dogs, comes from them not using one of their main natural instinct, their nose…
A Reactive dog does not use their main three senses when introducing themselves to another dog. They are;
If a dog isn’t using these three major senses, then they are being reactive.
High energetic dogs will in occasion nip another dog or start a fight. People can confuse this with dog aggression. This isn’t, its a case of being to excited and not knowing how to control itself. You must teach your dog the basics and patience before approaching a dog.
When a dog that is excited when they are approaching a dog they will whimper, whine or have a high pitch bark. This is a reactive or excited dog. When a dog is in this state, what people don’t do is calm the dog down, not doing so can result in a dog hurting another dog. This can often be mistaken as dog aggression. If you don’t know how to approach these situations, contact a trainer and work on the basic commands.
One on one training is first needed to know what tools to use, also what exercise to start on to develop a calmer dog. Once calm, you can then sign your dog up for training classes so your dog can be around other dogs and you can work on their obedience around other dogs and distractions. Once this step is done then you can give your dog another try to introduce themselves to another dog. In the beginning of reintroduction to dogs, your dog might be selective, but in time they will except all dogs.
Please contact a professional to know what tools to use, and how to use them. One tool that should NEVER be used is an E-Collar. The reason, E-Collars, as it says in the package, they are only used for distance training or Hunting. That’s it. If you have a trainer insisting you use an E-Collar, please seek another professionals help.
Dog Aggression is cause by non socialization of your dog, training is needed, but provided in steps. You start with one on one to make sure what tools you need, and how to use those tools to better control your dog. Also What exercises to do consistently on a regular basis.
